Since it was announced that Akira is done, and moviemakers and internet users of all varieties were struck by a series of news and rumors which more or less improbable and more contradictory. In short, from ambitious intention to split Akira the movie into two parts, to the complete cancellation of the project.
Writer Gary Whittle, at a press conference related to The Book of Eli, talked little about problematic Akira:
"I worked with him for almost a year. What I wanted was a return to sources and as a faithful adaptation of the manga version. Was to make all six sides of the graphic novel. "
For those who do not know, 1988 animation integrated into plot only the first two chapters of that novel.
"We got some notes from Otomo (creator of the novel) and I keep in touch, but I had no official meeting. Scenario in which I worked was just a early version. We made some drafts, but I feel like I got to the point I made, "said Whittle.
Now the fate of the film is in hand writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Nobody knows if they will take everything from scratch or expand premilinara version of Whittle's.
Some time ago we know that remake of "Akira" was canceled. But according to reliable sources in the Warner Brothers studio, today announced that its pre-production on "Akira" is in full swing, and as such, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are working hard on a new script to "Akira" scenario should be ready in the coming days.
Both writers worked on the script to "Children of Men", is credited and the Iron Man script (even if the script was written on the fly and improvised during filming).
They added that "Akira" is a priority for Warner Brothers, and if the script will get the green light, the film could go into production in 2010 - 2011, with a possible launch in 2013.
One of the most influential anime, Akira is based on a manga book. The story takes place in a community postapocaliptica the new Tokyo. Tetsuo is a fierce member of a motorcycle gang led by Kaneda friend. Despotic authorities, police and even robotic chip band Tetsuo bikers are after him when he is bombarded with a new insidious energy source that has sent telekinetic powers. But Tetsuo falls victim to these new powers which can not control.
In an interview from the Los Angeles Times, James Cameron talked about Avatar 2016 (Avatar 2), among others testifying that this sequel will go directly to the rainforest to the ocean planet of Pandora:
"We created a vast world for this project. Not just Pandora, but the hole system Alpha Centauri AB. We will explore this system and we will incorporate into the story - not necessarily in the second film, but certainly in the third. Part of my plan for Avatar 2 is creating a different environment on Pandora. I will focus on ocean and Pandora, which is as diverse, the crazy and original as rainforest. Do not say we'll see what I've seen so far, but we'll see something else. "
So as we see there will be for sure Avatar 2 movie and as we know for now the release date for Avatar 2 will be 2016. In the other way we also know that there will be an at least Avatar 3 (a trilogy???).
Registered success in the first movie avatar automatically determined from the Fox to rush things and be open for a sequel, but when it comes to Avatar 2 movie, James Cameron seems not to hurry and studios have not choice but must wait.
Thing is a sequel for Avatar might not be a priority for Cameron at the moment and according to rumors, will take over the famous director on another project before they start work on Avatar 2.
Jon Landau, one of the producers with whom James has collaborated told io9 that production will remain suspended Avatar 2 for a while and director will handle anything in the meantime.
Landau's explanation was still quite vague, but a plausible reason for postponing the film would not have been written yet another scenario - most likely Cameron will handle it - and if he's not geting an excellent scenario, we have to waited a while, because we are dealing with a perfectionist.
